RIO DE JANEIRO
CORCOVADO MOUNTAIN
Aside from The Holy Land and Austria, where the Sound of Music was birthed and filmed, before I leave this earth I desire to visit Christ the Redeemer Statue at Corcovado Mountain which towers above Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It is absolutely breathtaking, not just because of the beautiful imagery of God's nature, but also of the majesty of the symbolism of Christ towering high above all. It has been named as one of the NEW SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD.
Yet just below this symbolic representation of all that is good, underneath all the cosmetically beautiful views from above, lies probably one of the most morbid and evil environments on this earth. A place so ironically in need of the Savior whose statue towers over them. As if to mock Christ's power, the enemy rules the back streets of Rio de Janeiro in a place called the City of God (Cidade de Deus).
I will not cease to pray for Rio de Janeiro
and the City of God.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC
This is my all time favorite movie. It was released the year I was born (1965). I think I have watched it every year since I was old enough to know about it.

I grew up singing in choruses, trios & dancing tap, ballet & modern jazz in local musical productions. So is it any wonder that a musical would be my favorite?!

This is my all-time favorite Broadway Musical. It is the story of Jean Valjean, who stole some bread to feed his sisters family. After being arrested, imprisoned and released on parole after 19 years on the chain gang, finds that his yellow ticket-of-leave that he must by law display everywhere he goes, condemns him to forever be an outcast. Only the saintly Bishop of Digne treats him kindly.
Valjean, embittered by years of hardship, repays him by stealing some silver. He is caught and brought back by police, and is astonished when the Bishop lies to the police to save him, also giving him two precious candlesticks. With this display of grace that he had never before received, Valjean turns over a new leaf and start life anew. The story and music of Les Miserables will make you laugh, cry and rejoice!
